GC 2012: Information regarding parking and reminders about GeoTrail and the Grand Finals

Dear teachers,

We hope that your preparations for the GeoTrail and Grand Finals have been going well! The NUS Geography Challenge 2012 Organizing Committee would like to remind you and your students that GeoTrail 2012 will be happening this Saturday, 31 March. Students are reminded to report at at 0730 hrs at the Fountain Square of City Square Mall in their YELLOW GeoTrail teeshirt and PE shorts to register for the event. A briefing will be conducted at 0815 hrs, and any team that arrives later than 0845 hrs will be disqualified. Also, students are reminded to bring along:
  • Their I/C or EZ-link card for identification
  • Individual indemnity forms for each student
  • One signed copy of the Rules and Regulations for each team
  • A full set of school uniform for the Grand Finals
Students are also strongly encouraged to bring street directories and bus guides, as this information will not be provided on the day itself. However, students are not allowed to bring brochures and notes for the trail. More information on what to bring and what not to bring can be found in the information circular. A thorough bag check will be done before students head off for the GeoTrail.

Please refer to the left sidebar on this blog for the information circular, should you require more details. Schools are kindly requested to read through the Rules and Regulations, and to bring along one signed copy for each school on the day. Any breach of our rules and regulations could result in disqualification.

Also, with regard to parking for the Grand Finals at the Shaw Foundation Alumni House (SFAH) Auditorium, teachers are strongly advised to park at Carpark 15, near Temasek and Eusoff Hall, and not at Carpark 14 (which is reserved for NUS staff). A map of the area is attached for your reference. The SFAH is circled in green, while Carpark 15 is circled in red. The closest bus stops and the buses that stop there are also indicated on the map. Should you require a more comprehensive map of the whole of NUS, you may visit http://www.nus.edu.sg/campusmap/.

Teachers are also advised to head straight to SFAH at 1530h for the Grand Finals. This is to prevent a crowd outside LT11, where students will be gathering and washing up before the Grand Finals. Rest assured we will have ushers to lead students to the SFAH.

The Grand Finals are expected to end at 1930, after which a buffet dinner will be served.

Thank you! Do email me if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

Geo-Ad Sample Video

Dear students,

We hope that preparations for the Geo-Ad and Geotrail components have been going well! To help you with your video, we have uploaded the sample video for Geo-Ad 2012 onto Vimeo here. Enjoy!

NUS Geography Challenge 2012: Geo-Ad Sample Video from nusgc2012 on Vimeo.

The strengths of this video are that it has covered a range of geographical concepts related to urban reimaging in the context of Marina Bay. It is also engaging and interesting. However, the cons of this video are that it is far too long (remember to stick to the 5 minute time limit!). Some scenes were choppy, and the dialogue was difficult to hear because of the background noise. However, the team has overcome this constraint by using subtitles.

Also, we have uploaded the soft copy of the Geo-Ad circular. You can find it at https://docs.google.com/open?id=0ByqccRbTw6eGZnNURWpPS0pSSUd5RHlsQldXN3FWZw, or at the link on the left hand side of our blog. If you have any questions, feel free to email us at nusgc2012@gmail.com. We hope these things help you in your preparations for Geo-ad.

The Organizing Committee has great prizes up for grabs for the top teams in Geo-Ad, Geotrail and in the Finals round. Besides trophies and medals, we also have cameras, walkmans and headphones, so keep pressing on!

Finally, the NUS GC 2012 Organizing Committee is doing a survey based on our Preliminary Round. We hope that you will help us by filling in this survey if you have not already done so. The survey for teachers can be found at http://bit.ly/nusgc2012feedbackteachers, while the survey for students is at http://bit.ly/nusgc2012feedbackstudents. This survey will help us to improve NUS Geography Challenge in coming years, so please do fill it in and get your teammates to fill it in as well.

Thank you, and we hope to see you on 31 March for Geotrail and the Finals round! All the best with your preparations :)

Clarification regarding e-invoices

Dear Teachers,

For schools that have requested for an e-invoice during registration, we have recently clarified this issue with MOE, and we regret that as e-invoicing is only applicable for government organizations, we are unable to issue e-invoices at the moment.

The NUS Geographical Society will be setting up an account as soon as possible, and e-invoicing will be made available at a later date. We will inform schools when the account has been set up. In the meantime, we highly recommend that schools pay by cash or cheque on the day of the Preliminary Round, after which we will issue a receipt on that day. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Do email us if you have any concerns.

Thank you, and we apologize for our oversight.

Best regards,
